Goalie Call Up Procedures (NEW)

GOALIE CALL UP POLICIES AND PROCEDURES (updated 2024)

GOALIE CALL UPS

This new policy will only apply to teams in Peewee (U13), Minor (U15), Major (U17), Junior (U20), and Super Junior (U23).

A goalie can be called up if the full-time goaltender(s) the team making the call-up drafted is unable to be at the game, or, if the regular goalie is required to be a runner because the team has fewer than 10 runners.

Pup and Peanut teams will still be unable to call up a player to play goal, and will need to find a player within their line-up to do so.

Peewee Mountain teams can call up a goalie from Pup and Peewee Pacific.

Peewee Pacific teams can call up a goalie from Pup.

Minor Mountain teams can call up a goalie from Peewee Mountain or Minor Pacific.

Minor Pacific teams can call up a goalie from Peewee Pacific.

Major Mountain teams can call up a goalie from Minor Mountain or Major Pacific.

Major Pacific teams can call up a goalie from Minor Pacific.

Junior Mountain teams can call up a goalie from Major Mountain or Junior Pacific.

Junior Pacific teams can call up a goalie from Major Pacific.

Super Junior (U23) teams can call up a goalie from any Junior team.

Female Division teams can call up a female goalie from a Co-Ed team, as long as the call-up player’s birth year falls within the range of the Female division team.

A goalie is not limited to how many games he/she can play as a call up, but, may not miss a practice or game with their regular team to play for the team making the call-up. A violation of this would suspend the team’s right to call up any goalies and the right of that goalie to be called-up to any other team.

Day-of Call-ups

The team making the call-up must notify the President (president@vbha.com), Vice President (vp@vbha.com), and Team Managers Coordinator (managers@vbha.com) by email no less than four (4) hours before ball drop of the game.

The team making the call-up must ask permission from the head coach of the goalie’s regular team, either by phone call, text message, or email.

The team making the call-up must notify the scorekeepers of the goalie addition, prior to ball drop, to ensure the roster move is adequately recorded.

Affiliations:

A goalie in a lower division may affiliate with an eligible team, becoming an AP for the season. Normal call-up rules apply, but once a player is affiliated, it removes the requirement to notify the VBHA executive prior to the game.

To affiliate a player, the team making the affiliation must ask permission from the head coach of the goalie’s regular team by email and forward this to the President , Vice President, and Team Managers Coordinator. Once approved, he/she can be added as an AP to the roster. Normal call-up rules apply.

Playoffs:

Call-up goalies are eligible for playoff games. Normal call-up rules apply.

However, iIf a goalie call-up is required for a VBHA semifinal or VBHA final game, explicit written permission from the President or Vice President will be required before he/she can play. The case must be made that all efforts were taken to solve the personnel issue from within the team’s regular roster. If the league gives permission, proof of permission must be shown to the scorekeeper and the referees.
