National Team Coach selections

We at WCMBHA would like to thank the applicants for the BC Provincial teams preparing to play in the upcoming 2012 Junior Nationals in Vernon, BC the August longweekend. As we are preparing and excited to have two teams in the U17 Division and two teams in the U19 Division, we have filled Head Coach positions for these teams for 2012.

We would like to welcome at this time the following coaches that have past National Coaching experience to the following teams. Back for his second year of a two year term is Gary Slavin as Head Coach for the U15 West Coast Wolverines. This will be Gary's seventh year out of the past eight coaching BC at the Nationals. He has a national gold, 2 silvers, 2 bronze in the Apool at nationals as well as a Bpool gold in his first year in 2005.

Appointed to the U17 Division (B team) West Coast Wolverines is Dave Weloy. Dave has been an assistant coach at the national level for the past two years with the U15 Wolverines who won a Bronze and took 4th place in the 2011 tournament in Saskatoon. Dave has over 5 years of coaching experience at the WCC tournament as well at various age levels.

The U17 BC Thunder will be looked after by Head Coach Roy Shortridge. Roy was part of the coaching staff at the 2010 Nationals in Waterloo bringing home a bronze. Roy has extensive coaching background for Delta minor in house, as well as at provincials and WCC.

With the additional U19 team introduced to compete at the 2012 Nationals, it was a easy fit to put in an experienced coach at the helm. Dave Olafson will be the Head Coach for the U19 (B team) BC Thunder. Dave has been to the big national show since 2007 where he has brought home a gold and two silver medals in the Apool.

No stranger to the older level is Brad Moore. Brad will be coaching his second year of his two year term for WCMBHA, but has been with the U19 BC program for the past three years. With geat success in 2010 bringing home the Apool Silver. Brad has great knowledge of both minor and adult level 19 year olds and has the ability to put very competitive players on the floor. Join us in welcoming these coaches and we wish them the best of luck at this year's Junior Nationals
