Message From the Head Of Coaches
As a coach, having been on both a team that never lost
and a team that never won, I feel the greatest challenge facing the
executive is to come up with a means where by each and every team in the
league is competitive. As coaches we have to understand our roll within
the sport of Ball Hockey.
Ball Hockey is a recreational sport and as such we have
a wide variety of talent within the league and within each team. The
kids have signed up to have fun. It is our job to see that goal is met
by providing a safe, respectful and equal environment for each player.
I ask that all coaches ensure,
Playing time is shared equally. This is most easily
done by balancing your lines at the beginning of the game. In an odd man
rotation rotate your players equally.
Always respect the referees. Bad calls happen, missed
calls happen. Bite your tongue and ensure your players do likewise.
If the game is getting emotional and chippy you do
have control of the bench. Talk to your players and keep them focused on
playing the game. It is completely in your control.
Keep the talk and the language to a high standard: no
belittling, racial slurs or swearing - it is unnecessary.
If you have not taken a Community Coaching
Certification program I encourage you to seek one out and take it. They
cover phases of player development, psychology, how to build and run
drills, and much much more. In short, these courses are invaluable to
you.
And finally I wish you all a successful and fun filled
season.
Sincerely,
Blake DeBiasio

Coaching Application and Criminal Checks
All Coaches applying for the position of Head Coach or Assistant Coach
must fill out a league Coaching Application Form and forward to the Head
of Coaches.
Criminal checks and disclosure forms are mandatory and MUST be done prior
to the start of each season. *** Please
Note: For coaches outside of Langley a letter confirming
you are a volunteer coach for VBHA may be provided so the Langley RCMP
will waive the fee for non-residents. Email request with full name and
volunteer position (coach PN, team mngr PW, etc) to Head of Coaches. ***
Langley Township/City does not
charge for this service but the City of Surrey does. This is a municipal
charge, not an RCMP charge. Your local community police office will take
10 - 12 days to process, while the main RCMP detachment in Murrayville
will take 2-3 days to process.
